From Veronica Oakeshott, local councillor
If you’d like to help us promote cycling and keep the link between West Ham FC and Boleyn alive, join the next Bike from Boleyn ride on 22 April!
Our first ride in October 2016 was a great success. Fifty cyclists – including families with young children, our local MP and many councillors – all gathered at the Bobby Moore statue for some pedal-powered fun.
Together we rode to the new stadium, singing along the Greenway. Some of us hadn’t been on a bike for ages but thanks to stewards from Newham Cyclists, we made it safely to the Olympic Park. Then we had the chance to see West Ham play Sunderland and celebrate a home side win!
The Council provided match tickets, free bike hire for people who didn’t have their own bike, and the services of ‘Dr Bike’ – who had our creaky wheels shipshape before the ride.
The Bike from Boleyn campaign aims to promote cycling, increase the use of the Greenway and preserve the links between West Ham Football Club and Boleyn.
The next ride is on 22 April, before the Everton match. Whether you’re a football fan, a cyclist, or just want to wave us off, put it in your diaries!
